Dear Homebuilder: Building a home can be one of the most stressful yet rewarding experiences you can go through. In choosing a builder, you need to look at it as "can I be in business with this company for the next 3 to 6 months of my life."
My wife and I met with a lot of builders and couldn't find one that we felt put our interests first, and their egos second. That changed after only one meeting with Gill Construction, and we couldn't be happier with our choice.
We had unfinished custom plans, vague ideas on trim and cabinets, and very little ideas on plumbing fixtures. We were building a completely custom home, that most builders tried to change our minds about.
But not Gill. They treated us with respect, let us put forth our ideas without being condescending, and were true "business partners" during the whole build, and even more importantly, after the build. They walked us through all our choices, and made honest recommendations.
From to bottom, every employee had the same commitment to craftsmanship and quality that we did, and they all gave us guidance and ideas on how to best finish our home.
You hear all the horror stories about builders, but most of those are because the homeowner and the builder do not communicate well, and expectations are not on the same level.
From Dave and Val to the people who dug our basement, to the guys who put up the roof, to the crew that installed the shower doors, all were open, honest, and good listeners. Every home takes time, and problems arise, and sometimes the way you want something done, just can't. And that's the measure of an excellent builder...how they work with you to resolve those situations.
We moved in two years ago, and we still can't believe we live in our dream home. In trying to run a business and raise two little boys, we thought at times that we would go nuts, but we can honestly say that Gill Construction made it happen, and we know that other builders wouldn't have.
